Planetary Conjunctions
December 1st gave us a beautiful planetary display of Venus, Jupiter and a waxing moon. I snapped a few pics of it but I think this one is the nicest. It was taken from my rooftop in Shekou. If you get a chance, compare the location of the moon from images taken in North America to this one in China. If you were in Europe, you would have witnessed the moon occult Venus. Now that would have been a great sight to witness.
It’s my understanding that these three won’t be this near again until the year 2013. That’s a long wait. This reason alone should have you thinking twice about not stopping to admire such events since you never know when you will get a chance to admire something this short lived.
So next time you are out wandering about in the evening, don’t forget to look up. You may experience a beautiful and fleeting sight.
Clear skies!

Great photo. The foreground buildings add a nice touch.
[...] and by the way this guy has a great shot from 2 days ago – the planets and the Moon almost look like a smiley [...]
